This past weekend my wife, Helen, and I made a little trip to Cambridge for the weekend. Part of the plans on the Sunday were to visit the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial and then on to the Imperial War museum at Duxford.
It wasn’t the best weekend to pick to go away due to tail end of storm Ciara, it was cold, went and windy but our plans for the Sunday remained unaffected for the most part.
The Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial is certainly worth a visit, even though it was dull and with a little rain. It is the only U.S. war cemetary in the UK.
The visitor center was a brief respite from natures elements and also gave a good insite into the way of life for the U.S. servicemen based in this part of the UK.
To see row upon row of war graves and the thousands of names on the Walls of the Missing is quite an emotianal experience, my eyes certainly welled up! The thoughts of what they must have gone through, giving their lives, to protect our land and give us the future we have today certainly hits home!
I hope that the children and grandchildren of our generation and the generations to come never forget these fallen heroes.
